How to use this tool
What is an SWP?
A Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP) allows you to withdraw a fixed amount of money from your mutual fund scheme regularly. The remaining balance continues to earn interest, making it an excellent source of regular retirement income.
How to Plan Your SWP
Set up retirement income streams to see how long your cash balance survives.
Initial Capital
Enter the total lump sum amount you plan to invest or migrate into the SWP.
Monthly Withdrawal
Choose the regular cash payout you wish to receive from your portfolio every month.
Withdrawal Horizon
Select the duration (Years) you want this retirement income stream to run.
The SWP Simulation Model
The account balance is calculated month-by-month by subtracting the withdrawal and adding the yield:
Balancenew = (Balanceprev - Withdrawal) × (1 + r/12)
Frequently Asked Questions
Understanding Systematic Withdrawal structures.
Can my SWP balance run out?
Yes. If your monthly withdrawal rate is significantly higher than the interest returns earned by your remaining balance, your principal capital will erode and eventually fall to zero.
What is the safety threshold for withdrawals?
Generally, if you withdraw less than or equal to the expected return rate (e.g., withdrawing 4-5% annually from an asset returning 8%), your base principal should stay intact indefinitely.
